Basic Assumptions
Always going forwards never going backwards.
It is very easy to get put off when you are exploring ways of improving yourself. It is fairly typical for someone to start the process and then hit a problem and they give up. They feel like their effort was wasted and they have failed. The method refuses to think this way. Every problem is an opportunity to learn - either something about the world or more probably something about yourself. If you fail at a task (and all of us do if we are challenging ourselves) then you have learned something important that you can employ to move forwards. You are always moving forwards - never going backwards.
Self improvement is a good idea
I believe that it is important to always be finding ways of improving yourself. It does not matter what age you are or what point you have reached in life you can always improve. This benefits yourself because life becomes more fulfilling and happier and it benefits others because a better you is better for everyone.
Self improvement is a personal process
Other people can help us improve. We are not simply a number of individual people trying to make our way in the world but are part of a much bigger world where each person has an others. However the only person you can effectively change is yourself. You can help others improve but you cannot make them. You can make yourself improve.
Faith is important
I have a strong Christian belief. I respect the views of others and strongly defend the rights of anyone to make their own choices about what they believe. However I also believe that without a spiritual life we are less than we should be. Part of the process of self development is learning what God created us for. Spirituality is not an individual persuit, it reaches out beyond self and into eternity. Mature faith is important for fulfillment and happiness.
