It’s better to be active than reactive

bythemethod | March 3, 2008

Many people spend their lives simply reacting to situations that arise. They put all their time into solving the problems that come their way but seldom if ever take a proactive approach to their life. Signs of being a reactive person include: you feel like you never get any breaks in life; you feel that everyone in the world is working against you; you feel that life is something to be survived rather than enjoyed.

It’s pretty simple to become an active person. You need to start making plans for how your life will be. Start with a simple idea of what you would like life to be like. If you are a reactive person you will find this very difficult but you need to persist. Then when you have an idea of what you want start to think about how you could get it. Now start doing something, anything, to make it happen and hey-presto you have become an active person.

Being active will reduce your stress because you will start to feel in control rather than out of control. The more control you can get over your life the lower your stress will be.
