You are who you mix with

bythemethod | July 16, 2008

If you want to be successful and happy then you need to mix with successful and happy people. This is not rocket science and if you think about it for a while you will see that this is true.

However it’s not just who you mix with, it’s also about the TV programmes you watch, the websites you visit, the books you read, the magazines you browse, etc..

There used to be an old wise saying of “rubbish in – rubbish out”. That is if you put lots of rubbish into your head and heart and this is what will come out of it.

Your friends will have a profound effect on the way you feel

Do you have friends who make you feel good about yourself and the world around you? Or do your friends make you feel depressed and sad.

I’m not talking about the friend who is having a bad patch or facing a terrible problem. We care for these people and it’s right we give them our time and energy.

I mean the friends who are always miserable about everything. Even when good things happen to them they will make it sound like disaster is just around the corner. The kind of friends who will make your achievemnents and successes seem like the most insignificant thing that anyone ever did.  These are the kinds of people who leave you feeling drained when you leave them and your heart sinks when you meet them in the street.

However sometimes its hard to spot them until it is too late.

What you need are friends who will make you feel good about yourself. Friends who make you feel inspired when you meet them. The kinds of friends you would cross a busy street to say hello to.

If you want to be successful you need to associate with successful people. If you want to be happy then you need to associate with happy people.

Pick your friends wisely

I’m not saying that you should never have anything to do with anyone who is sad or a failure. It may be that such people need you. However don’t let such people be your only friends and don’t spend all your time with them.

Find people who can help you succeed.

Rubbish in -rubbish out

Also remember that all the things you watch and read and listen to have an effect on the way you feel. Be careful about what goes in to your mind.
