If you want to do something then it’s up to you to make it happen
bythemethod | September 29, 2008Most of us have a dream of some kind. I was reading the other day that more people have a dream to write a book than have a dream to be an astronaut. So why is it that so few ever get to write a book? Is it because they don’t have the talent? Well apparently not. Is it because they don’t have any good ideas? Judging from the books I sometimes read – I can’t believe that is true. Most people’s lack of success is down to them.
So how can we make sure this lack of success doesn’t happen to us?
The truth is that whatever your dream is there is only one person who can make it happen. You.
My wife is an X-factor fan and so I often end up watching it. I’m always surprised by the number of people who say that it has always been their dream to be a singer and this is there only chance to make it.
It’s not.
Most people who sing professionally did not win (or even appear on) the x-factor. The only reason this is the only chance they have is because they have only given themselves this chance. But the sad thing is that most of them – despite their dream – actually believe that the only way they can fulfill it is to win a T.V. competition.
The person who is going to make it happen for you is sitting in the room with you as you read this.
YOU.
Whatever your dream is there is only one person who can turn that dream into a reality. You may need the help of others along the way and experience tells me that if one person turns out not to be the one to help then another will come along who is. Seek out the people who can help you. Don’t wait for them to discover you instead go out of your way to be discovered.
So from today promise yourself one thing. You are not going to rely on anyone else to make your dream happen instead you are going to go out and make it happen yourself.
How do you make it happen?
1. Have a plan.
2. Find people who can help you.
3. Keep putting your dream out into the world.
4. Keep going.
